About Us
CIT works with youth ages 14-21 impacted by and/or experiencing poverty and violence in disinvested communities in Wilmington, Delaware. CIT works to promote:
-
Community engagement
-
Changing community norms
-
Positive youth development
The objectives of CIT aim to have youth participants create, reclaim and advocate for a new narrative of their community's needs and identity. The re-creation and validation of youths' experiences and needs will create opportunities for participants to become active citizens and advocates within their community.
THE THREE GOALS OF CIT
"Stand Up & Stand As One" -CIT motto
Community Engagement:
CIT works to actively
partner with the Wilmington community to facilitate events and conversations about bettering their community.
Changing community norms:
CIT works with youth
to identify positive and negative community norms within the Wilmington community to shift negative
perspectives of the community and facilitate positive actions to acknowledge norms that need to be changed.
Positive youth development:
CIT uses a Social Justice Youth Development (SJYD) approach to cultivate positive youth development. Using this approach coupled with a Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) framework, CIT helps young people to ask and answer questions about their community while helping to create and advocate for systematic change.
